The Reality of 8K 60fps Video on Smartphones: Can Your Phone Actually Do It?
When smartphone manufacturers first introduced 8K video recording, it felt like a bold step into sci-fi territory. Packing 33 million pixels into every single frame—roughly four times the resolution of standard 4K—was a major flex for mobile processors and camera sensors alike.
Naturally, mobile videographers and tech enthusiasts immediately began asking the next logical question: Which phone can record 8K at 60 frames per second (fps)?
The answer might surprise you. While high-end flagship phones have comfortably supported 8K recording for years, truly native 8K video recording at 60fps remains an elusive milestone for smartphones.
The Current State of Mobile 8K Recording
If you look at the specs of the top flagship devices—such as Samsung’s Galaxy Ultra line, Xiaomi’s high-end flagships, and premium offerings from Oppo and Vivo—you will find plenty of support for 8K video. However, almost all of them max out at 8K resolution at 30fps (or even 24fps on earlier generations).
